This organization is founded on the principles of fostering a quality public education for the children of our

community in a manner consistent with economic honesty and moral fairness to all who live here.

We believe that all children are entitled to the best educational foundation we can afford, to guide them into their future. Such an

educational foundation is nothing short of necessary to deliver the prerequisite skill and knowledge base of a sound

local economy in an ever-increasing competitive and complex world marketplace.

That being said, we believe this objective can and must be done in a manner that: Does not impose undue financial hardship

on the community at large, Is completely transparent to the voter / layman, Respects the wishes and sacrifices of the local

taxpayer, and Is consistent with the economic laws of supply and demand instead of the demands of the supplied special interests.

To this end, we will provide educational and fiscal information regarding the Seaford School District . Knowledge is the key.

We will provide direction to others interested in independently gathering information on our district. We sincerely believe

that an informed community will be better equipped to judge the “ value ” of services provided by our local school district.

We will try to objectively present this information from two perspectives- the educational accomplishments of the district and

district's fiscal responsibility to the taxpayer. We will also exercise our first amendment right, and from time to time present

commentary that should be readily distinguishable as such.

OUR VERY OWN SCANDAL

The last week of August was an active month in our school district centered on a $1.7 million dollar

math error. How the district miscalculated the “surplus” by so huge an amount remains a question

being looked at by prosecutors and the State Comptroller's office. School Board President Julie

Oliva and Vice President Kathy Perlman resigned. The District's Treasurer, Elsie Friedman was

suspended, and the Assistant Superintendent Ed Wallowitz, retired four months earlier than planned,

and the outside auditors since replaced.

In recent years, the community and district have been in a virtual tug of war over demands for

exorbitant tax increases and cut backs of emotion-provoking services including late bussing, and

sports and music programs. With district finances under such pressure, one can only beg the question

how so much money can go unnoticed as services are cut and taxes are raised substantially year

after year. The unaccounted for money represents nearly 4% of the $45 million school budget.

Although funds were returned to the taxpayers to offset their school tax bill as required by state law,

the administration and school board did present a resolution to local and state politicians seeking a law

change to permit a third school budget vote. This did not come to pass. Current state law permits only

two votes. A second attempt to override the will of the people has been foiled.

Speaking of which, please learn how you can help be a watchdog of your tax dollar. Utilizing The

Freedom of Information Act, you too can submit a request for records (referred to as FOIL request)

to obtain records and other vital information about our district. Never know what you can find.
